Giggles, Grins, and Guru Wisdom: Meet the Laughter Yogi - Swami Dhyan Abhar

In the serene foothills of Rishikesh, amidst the chants of sacred mantras and the gentle rustling of the Ganges, a figure stands out, not with solemnity but with infectious joy. Swami Dhyan Aabhar, a beacon of laughter and light, has dedicated his life to spreading happiness through an unusual yet transformative practice: Laughter Yoga.

"Hi everyone," he greets, his warm voice carrying an irresistible charm. "I want everyone to be healthy and happy. Nowadays, I am sharing Laughter Yoga, a unique concept where anyone can laugh without relying on jokes, comedy, or humor—just laugh for the sake of laughter."

Laughter Yoga, as Swamiji explains, is more than just a practice; it’s a way of life. Conducted in a beautiful meditation hall nestled in the tranquil surroundings of Rishikesh, his weekly laughter clubs are a sight to behold. People from all walks of life gather here, seeking not just laughter but liberation from the burdens of modern existence. "We laugh to heal, to connect, and to live fully," he shares, his eyes twinkling with enthusiasm.

The Journey of Transformation

Swami Dhyan Aabhar’s journey to Laughter Yoga was born from a realization that the world was losing its ability to laugh. "I was among the 90% of the world’s population who couldn’t laugh freely because of over-seriousness. But when I discovered Laughter Yoga, everything changed. I became more playful, more alive. Music, dance, and joy flowed into my life," he recalls.

He believes that laughter is the universal language of humanity, transcending cultural, religious, and emotional barriers. "Even bad memories have turned into moments of witnessing and growth for me," he reflects. "Laughter is a global vocabulary—it connects us all."

A Peek Into Laughter Yoga

In one of his most memorable sessions, held at Hotel Raj Rajeshwari, Swami Dhyan Aabhar witnessed the magic of laughter bring together seekers from across the globe. "Many beautiful, young, and energetic souls joined us," he says. "It was amazing to see people from different cultures laughing together, creating a collective energy of joy and healing."

Swamiji’s offerings include a six-hour Basic Laughter Yoga Learning Course, designed to help participants bring joy and laughter into their lives, and a 12-hour Laughter Yoga Leader Training Program, which empowers individuals to lead laughter sessions in their own communities. "These programs are not about the money. My concern is spreading laughter to as many people as possible," he emphasizes.

The Science Behind Laughter

"Did you know," Swamiji asks, "that our bodies and brains reap the same benefits whether our laughter is natural or intentional? Laughter releases dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins—the feel-good chemicals. It boosts energy, heals emotions, and fosters connection."

For Swami Dhyan Aabhar, laughter isn’t just an emotional release; it’s a workout and a meditation. "I laugh without reason," he chuckles. "You might find me on the streets, laughing as a form of exercise. It’s infectious and transformative."

Reaching a Global Audience

Swamiji’s mission is far-reaching. He offers online Laughter Yoga sessions to connect with people worldwide. "Laughter is for everyone, whether you’re from India, Israel, or any corner of the world. It’s a multiplying emotion—the more we laugh, the more joy we bring into our lives," he says.

An Invitation to Laugh

As our conversation concludes, Swami Dhyan Aabhar leaves us with an invitation: "Say yes to laughter. Let it transform your life. It’s the simplest, most profound way to connect with joy and the essence of being human."

Swami Dhyan Aabhar’s laughter isn’t just an act; it’s a revolution of joy in a world that often forgets how to smile. His work reminds us that laughter is not only the best medicine but also a bridge to the divine—a way to transcend sorrow and embrace the bliss of existence.

He conducts in-person Laughter Yoga sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at Hotel Raj Rajeshwari, Tapovan, Rishikesh. The sessions begin at 08:15 PM onwards. To know more, fill in your details below.
